Opening a new business?

Well its not an easy task to open up a new business.. You need to examine your business idea first.. It means that you need to know the legal status of the businee, nature of the business, and the location of the business..

These three questions seems to be simple yet in actual fact, its a very challenging to be accomplished..

As for the legal status, here in Brunei you may start a business either in the form of sole-proprietorship, partnership or private limited company.. The business need to be registered with the Registration of Company (ROC), to obtained the Business Names and / or the 16 & 17 forms..

After knowing your business location, then the Miscellaneous License need to be obtained from the relevant government authorities.. It has to be obtained according to their location and nature of the business.. If the location is under Bandaran area, then you have to seek for the approval from the Licensing Department of the Municipal Board whilst some others need to go to the Licensing Department of the District Office.. The annual chargable fee of these Miscellaneous License depends on the nature of the business.. Will upload the chargeable fee later..

Below is the photo taken during my visit to the Brunei-Muara District Office:

Do you know where exactly this building is? As a matter of fact sharing, the building is located at the heart of the government offices area of old airport, the same row with the National Dental Center (Pusat Pergigian Negara) and the Agriculture Departmenr (Jabatan Pertanian).. It is the one just before the round about..

Owh the above signage was taken right before entering the Licensing Department of Brunei-District Office.. Met the Licensing Officer, Awg. Jumat bin Haji Rajid.. He is very nice.. We need more government officer like him.. Very cooperative.. Thanks!!

By chance, he is also a friend of my dad..
